Favourite of the Week

This week I'm giving you one of my, recently discovered, favourite songs. I've probably heard it a million times before, but since my new found fascination with vampires, it just speaks to me! ;)

So, I had actually thought of making a Twilight-fanvid with this song, but a visit to YT showed me that there are a million already. Perhaps I will resolve to write something instead.

Favourite of the Week

I thought I would start a trend. A regular feature here in my blog called "Favourite of the week". I haven't exactly decided on what it will entail, but, I had planned on like character, actor/ess or novel or... well basically anything, really.

So with out further ado, I give you...
Eric Northman, viking vampire and character in Charlaine Harris' novel series Southern Vampire Mysteries. He is roughly about a thousand years old. He's Swedish. And so very sexy. He's tall and well built if we may trust Sookie Stackhouse (“handsome, in fact, radiant; blond and blue-eyed, tall and broad shouldered. He was wearing boots, jeans, and a vest. Period. Kind of like the guys on the cover of romance books.”). He's all together attractive. And even though he's a flirt and perhaps somewhat of a player and bad boy, we get to see a softer, more sensitive side of him in Dead to the World when he's bewitched and without a memory of the vampire he used to be. He grows as a character in the books, which don't think comes across in the Tv-series True Blood. I do, however, approve of them choosing Alexander Skarsgård and the fact that he speaks Swedish from time to time. :) It cracks me up every time.

I really like the way he always sound so seductive... It really, when listening to the audio book, sends shivers down my spine, and it's really a woman reading it! That's good writing, right? :P

Don't you just want to eat him up?

True Blood Season 2

*Spoiler alert*  

If you haven't seen season two, and don't want to know about it, stop reading here.

I've finally had the time to watch all of the episodes of season two of True Blood. I probably should have let more time pass before I did it, because all I did now was to complain about how this and that didn't happen like that in the book. My hubbie became quite put out with me. "It's only based on the books," he said, continuously. And I didn't get to see Eric in lycra, well the sexparty-thingie didn't really happen like that in the book. Lafayette didn't even get killed. I have much trouble relating to the book now. The series is still good, but I think they have changed too much for my liking.

One thing I really liked was the relationship between Hoyt and Jessica, they were so sweet. Too bad Jessica went all vamp in the last eppi. I wander what is going to happen there.

And the thing with Maryann the meanad? I just didn't get that, so not what the book said. And Eric inviting Lorena, Bill's maker? What's that all about. I did, however, like the relationship between Eric and Godric. That showed a more sensitive side to Eric, which shows even more in the books. I like that side of him. He is not as ruthless as he seems.

I do still enjoy the tv-series, though I find the books even better. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next season, which is to be aired this summer.

Club Dead

The third book, Club Dead, in the Southern Vampire Mysteries takes Sookie to Jackson, Mississippi, to investigate the kidnapping of her boyfriend Bill Compton. With the help of the werewolf Alcide Hervoux she finds out that Bill is actually being tortured by his mistress, and former lover, Lorena. At Josephine's, or Club Dead as the weres call it, Sookie meets Alcide's former girlfriend Debbie who is not pleased to see her ex with a new woman, even if she is at the club celebrating her engagement to another man. Later, thanks to her ability, she saves the King, Russell Edgington, of Mississippi's right hand from being staked, only to be injured in the process. Thanks to that injury she is taken to his mansion, where they suspects Bill is being held. In order to rescue Bill, Sookie drinks Eric's blood to regain her strength and then some.

In this book Eric's interest for Sookie deepens and I think we get to see another, softer side of him.Then we have Alcide, the dark and sexy werewolf who shows great interest, much to his ex's dismay who actually tries to kill Sookie when she shoves Sookie into the trunk together with a very hungry Bill. Intrigues, intrigues.

These books just gets better and better!

Living Dead in Dallas

The second of Charlaine Harris's series of Sookie Stackhouse, Living Dead in Dallas, takes our heroine to Dallas for a job. She's been hired by the vampires of Dallas to use her telepathic skills to find a missing vamp. She encounters the Fellowship of the Sun for the first time, she also finds out that there are more supernatural creatures out there aside from vampires. Such is meanads and shapeshifters/ werewolves.

I still have a very vivid image of a Eric Northman in Lycra. That must be a sight for sore eyes, right? Apparently, that is not in the TV-version. Such a shame. Would have liked to see Alexander in pink Lycra.

I really enjoyed this book. And I'm really starting to become very fond of Eric as a character. Maybe because he's more fun and dangerous than Bill. Bill is kind of meek in comparison.

And to be honest, I'm getting a wee bit embarrassed when listening to all the sex scenes...

Dead Until Dark

I have just finished reading (well, listening to actually) the first novel in the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, Dead Until Dark. As you may, or may not know, these are the novels that the popular Tv-series True Blood is based on. But I must say, the books are better. Even if we get to see everything through Sookie's eyes, and the fact that they have added  characters and events in the series. Of course I have the images of the cast in my head. Yes, I find Stephan Moyer's Bill Compton very attractive. And yes, I find fellow Swede Alexander Skarsgård very, very attractive as Eric Northman. Anna Paquin is great as Sookie.They have explored other characters in the series, even if the focus is on Sookie, we get to see more of for example, Sam and Jason in the Tv-series, which is good too.

The book is from a first person perspecitve and Sookie is the one we are following. I usually prefer it to be third person, because I would so like to know what everyone is thinking. I'm kind of nosy... :P I mean wouldn't you like to know what is going on inside of Bill's head? Or Eric's for that matter?

These books are a lot more juicy than say, Twilight, which is quite sweet in comparison (in the first two-three books anyway). They are more like Laurell K. Hamilton's series about Anita Blake. Rawer and much sexier. I like it. It has all the elements I like in a book; romance, vampires,  a little bit of violence, a whole lot of sex...

If you like the tv-series, read the books, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

And so the Saga Came to an End

*SPOILER ALERT*

if you haven't read all four books in The Twilight Saga, stop reading here! 

I've just finished reading Breaking Dawn. Or rather listening to it. I have found that audio books are clearly understated. So relaxing and a great way to experience literature. Of course the reader must be good too. And this one was. I enjoyed all four books this way.

And I must say the books just gets better and better. I did find the last one the best. Lots of action and love and stuff. I really loved it, didn't want it to end at all. And Bella finally got her Edward for all eternity. I think this last book was more mature. As I guess the readers grow older, Stephenie Meyer has thought of that. I guess I'm a bit too old for crushing on a 17 (give or take a hundred years) year old vampire, but Edward is just so great. Old fashion and just so awesomely gorgeous. Who wouldn't want to hang with him for the rest of eternity?

Renesmee was a great idea. I loved that Bella bore a child, it made the bond between her and Edward even stronger. As a mother I can relate to the unquestioning love for a child you haven't even met yet, even if it hurts you and makes you feel ill.

Apparently there were a plan of writing Twilight from Edward's perspective but due to illegal publication the project was put on hold. Tough the first draft is found on Stephenie's website. Read more about Midnight Sun here. I'm so going to! Especially read the first draft!

Pattinson doesn't do it for me

I rewatched Twilight yesterday. Had to see if I found Robert Pattinson more compelling or not. I didn't. I don't know what it is, but there is something I don't like about him. Sure, he's a good looking guy and all, but not my type at all. There's something about the mouth I think. And I'm not that impressed by Kristen Stewart either. No, the book is still way better than the movie.

I know that you probably think I'm weird that is not swooning about Robert Pattinson, everybody seems to love him. I swoon about Edward, Edwards in the book.Perhaps Pattinson will grow on me, but I'm still on the fence. You know, even my hubbie thinks I'm weird that I don't fancy Pattinson, since everybode else does... ;)(Ok, yeah so, he's kinda hot on that pic on the left... I'll give you that.)

And also I was annoyed with things that they had missed. I get that it's hard to make a movie out of a book. And I get that you can't fit everything in there. And, sure, it's not half bad, but still... Things that are so important in the book, is not even mentioned in the movie. Things that she doesn't do in the book, she does in the movie...

I'll probably go to see New Moon together with my friend though. Even if I'm already shocked about the trailer. Already in the trailer I can see thins that are wrong. But I'll do it for her. She's pregnant and all... :P

Twilight

I have always had a fascination for vampires. They are always very, very good looking, immortal and despite their cool skin, very hot. I don't really know when I started to be fascinated, or what brought it on, but suddenly I crave them. Everything about them. Could they be real? Is there vampires walking among us? Probably not, but it is a bewildering thought, nonetheless.

I know that people talked about Interview with a vampire quite early, well, I was 14 when it came. But I didn't see it till later. I don't know if it was my fear of the dark and unknown that kept me away from it for a while. It is a great movie which I haven't seen for a while actually, I believe it is time to see it soon. But I did enjoy Dracula before that.

Now the vampires are very popular again. Twilight, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries have seen to that. I really wasn't that impressed with Twilight the movie. It was too slow for my taste, sure there were vampires, but I really didn't see why everyone fell in love with Robert Pattinson as Edward. I really don't find Robert that attractive. After reading the book, however, I can see the fascination for Edward. The novel is so much better. So, I'm hooked. Am going to see New Moon as soon as possible. I already have a date too. :P Perhaps I will change my mind about Pattinson as Edward.

Maybe just the fact that he is portraying a vampire does the trick. ;) It is possible. But I do think the books is much better than the movie anyway. So much get lost in the adaptation. Very few adaptations can do the original justice, in my opinion.
